How to Encourage Ready Golf at your Volunteer-Led Golf Club

What is ready golf?

Ready golf is a practical approach that emphasizes efficiency and pace of play during a round of golf. Unlike traditional golf where players wait for the farthest golfer to hit, ready golf allows any player who is ready to take their shot when it is safe to do so, regardless of order. This practice includes quick decision-making and being prepared to play when it’s your turn. By implementing ready golf, we aim to create a more enjoyable and time-efficient experience for all our club members.

Why is ready golf important?

In our busy lives, finding time to enjoy a round of golf can be challenging. A faster pace of play can make golf more accessible and enjoyable, reducing the frustration that sometimes comes with long waits and slow rounds. For volunteer-run golf clubs, where members often juggle multiple responsibilities, ready golf can alleviate pressure and free up time for other club duties or personal activities. It encourages a respectful and considerate environment, fostering camaraderie and satisfaction among club members.

To encourage ready golf techniques, we at Golf Club Games have incorporated specific strategies into our score submission process. Our form asks golfers to indicate which ready golf techniques they used:

  • Taking no more than one practice swing
  • Planning which club to use while walking or driving to their ball
  • Having the first two players who hole out proceed to the next hole if the group is behind, and
  • Parking bags closest to the next hole.

By reinforcing these techniques each week, we remind our members of the importance of readiness and efficiency. This approach not only promotes faster play but also enhances the overall golfing experience for everyone involved. Let’s embrace ready golf and make our club a model of efficient, enjoyable play!
